About Us

The National Parents Council Post Primary (NPCPP) is a voluntary group with a Board of 12 Directors who work on behalf of parents and young people in post-primary education in Ireland.

Former Minister for Education, Gemma Hussey T.D., inaugurated The NPCPP on the 8th June 1985. The Minister noted that NPCPP would have the same rights to consultation as the school management bodies and teachers’ unions. The NPCPP is now a limited company, as named in the Education Act 1998.

The NPCPP acts as an umbrella organisation for parents’ associations in the post-primary section of the Irish education system. The post-primary system has several types of schools and it was agreed that an umbrella group with delegates selected by four Constituent Bodies would form the umbrella group, becoming NPCPP.
