NEW Defence Forces Recruitment Campaign Announced
|
|
|
Acting Minister Simon Coveney, has announced that the Defence Forces will see 1,450 personnel enlisted by next year - 600 general service personnel in 2016 and a further 850 in 2017. The campaign will specifically target increased female recruitment and also continue with outreach initiatives, which seeks to engage with minority communities and new citizens.

Apprenticeships becoming Game Changers in Education

“ I can’t get a job without experience – but I can’t get experience without a job.”
Insurance is a sector suffering due to skills gaps, but is proactively challenging this trend. The industry has developed a government-approved professional apprenticeship scheme, due to launch in September this year. Over 100 apprentices will be hired into organisations across the country, where they will gain practical workplace experience while earning a level 8 degree – the BA (Hons) in Insurance Practice.

Under the latest recruitment campaign which closed for applications in January this year, 16,651 people applied to join An Garda Síochána with 5,463 female applicants. The new trainees will now undertake The Student/Probationer Training Programme, which is delivered over 104 weeks and lead to a B.A. in Applied Policing which is accredited by the University of Limerick.

Details of New Apprenticeship areas NOW Available on CareersPortal
|
|
|
Up until now, Apprenticeships have largely been available in craft areas - trades related to specific Sectors e.g., Building & Construction (Bricklayer, Electrician, Plumber, Plasterer); or Engineering (Motor Mechanic, Aircraft Mechanic, Construction Plant Fitter), among others.
All 27 Traditional Craft Apprenticeships are fully detailed on CareersPortal.ie together with Videos and links to where current craft apprenticeship vacancies can be found, is available on CareersPortal.ie.
Details of the 25 NEW Apprenticeship Types launched in 2015 are also now available on CareersPortal.ie. Comprehensive information has been added for those apprenticeships which are due to open for application in June 2016, with training to commence in September 2016. This area is being updated and expanded as information becomes available.
