Press Statement NPCpp Response to Strike Action
19/11/2009

The National Parents'Council Postprimary(NPCpp)does not support the strike action by teachers on November 24. We believe that this action will not achieve anything for those involved. It will create an unsympathetic climate among the general public especially among people who have been unfortunate to loose their jobs in recent times.

Teachers striking will create difficulties for parents. This is particularly important for parents who may have to take time off to mind their children because of school closures. There is also a cost factor involved forthose families who have to pay for childminding should they not be able to take time out from their careers.

School transport providers will also suffer financially as buses will not run if children are not going to school as normal on the 24th. The Minister Mr. Batt O'Keeffe has warned teachers that they will not be paid should they decide not to turn up for work. The integrity of the school year is being eroded by strike action. There are no winners here.
